Recyclability of Tanks

Recycling glass-lined tanks can be difficult because the glass enamel lining inside the tank is not easily recyclable. It is usually not worth the effort to try and separate the enamel from the steel so the tanks usually end up in landfills. While some recycling facilities may accept glass-lined water heaters, it's worth noting that it may be difficult to find a facility that can properly recycle the enamel-coated tank because it is not cost-effective.

With Tunstall 316L stainless steel tanks we do not use any lining at all, making our tanks 100% recyclable. The recycling rate for stainless steel is relatively high, around 67% globally, which means that it can be reused multiple times, and thus, reduces the need for new raw materials and helps reduces the cost of production.

By purchasing a stainless steel tank we conserve natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower the environmental impact by recycling the tank at the end of it’s service life to possibly be made into more tanks!
